  • A TRANSLATOR WHO NEEDS A FRESH SET OF EYES to ensure that the final translation achieves that perfectly idiomatic, easy-reading flow in English. (Or perhaps you want to bounce ideas about the nuances of tricky passages? That’s one of my favorite things!)

  • A “FUSION” WRITER—A multilingual writer whose style blends features of multiple languages or English dialects. I won’t try to homogenize your voice. My goal is to sustain the grammar, flow, and style that is true to your English. I will ensure that your writing has clarity and consistency where it counts without imposing “rules” that you don’t care about.

  • AIMING FOR “QUEEN’S” ENGLISH—On the other hand, if you are writing for high-pressure, formal contexts, and you need your writing to sound very specifically like the BBC, the New York Times, or the Harvard Business School, I got you. Whether you need to meet a certain style guide or just want some polishing to make your prose sound “native speaker,” I’ll take care of the pesky details so you can just focus on the quality of the content.

    As a writing professional, my role is not to enforce a single standard of English. Rather, I see my role as supporting clarity of communication across all styles and dialects.

  • My Skills

    • Years of experience coaching and editing for ESL writers, including speakers of Korean, Chinese, and Arabic.

    • A grounding in the linguistic and orthographic history of English, as well as Classical and Romance languages and grammar, and new media theory.

    • Experience editing texts in Classical Studies, including proofreading Latin and Ancient Greek.

    • Reading fluency in French and Spanish, sufficient to check translations against the original, handle quotes in a way that honors the grammar of each language, and interface with bilingual publishers. Most recently, I copyedited Fictions of Race in Contemporary French Literature: French Writers, White Writing, by Oana Panaïté & Étienne Achille (Oxford University Press), a close literary reading of French novels which incorporates both original and translated quotations.
